"lack of POC" Seriously? You're still on this? The story takes place in mid-1800s Netherlands area. I'm pretty sure the population of that area of the world was almost exclusively white people. I'm all for racial inclusivity, but you just can't throw POC's into a time period/area they weren't around for.
Oh, dear, dear, dear. Darlin’, I lived in the Netherlands. That movie is not set in the goddamn Netherlands. And if it were, the lack of POC would be ever more inexcusable given their colonization of African countries. There would certainly have been POC in a “realistic” film set in that time.
The movie is set in a Disney-fied mish-mash of Scandinavia. As in the kingdoms of Sweden, Norway, Denmark… etc.
There are indigenous POC there called the Sami (And Kristoff’s fashion is somewhat loosely, insultingly based on them) who could have easily been included, rather than just ripped off for their fashion as an afterthought.
And aside from that, there has historically been trading and intermingling between Scandinavian people and other cultures since forever so don’t give me that shit.
They deigned to include several dark-skinned people in the ballroom, so clearly in this fictional story people of color do exist, albeit only as background decoration:
Also this is a movie with talking snowman and a girl who can build a fucking palace out of ice in like 10 seconds, so don’t pull that “Oh, but having non-white people is so unrealistic”, ok?
There are a lot of ways in which I think this movie is groundbreaking for Disney, and I love it for many other reasons, but the lack of non-white people is a problem! So don’t make excuses for that. (And if you must try, at least do some research first, or you’re going to sound like a racist moron.)
